  • In 1803 the US bought the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million dollars. This was called the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase made the US double in size

  • In the early 1800s, Mexico started becoming unhappy with how they were being treated. Because most of the people in Spain weren't from there they got treated poorly. They had to pay more taxes and they didn't have the same privileges as a handful of people who were born there.

  • Father Miguel Hidalgo was a man looking for a change in New Spain, He wanted equal power for everyone.He wanted to start a revolt to make the Spanish get what they deserve, But the criollos did not want to help with his revolt.

  • Filibusters were military adventurers who fought unofficial wars. Philip Nolan was a filibuster who came to Texas in the late 1700s. He said he was there to take and trade wild horses for the Spanish government.
  • The Battle of Medina was a battle between the Spanish army and the Republican Army. Although there were many fights leading up to this that the Republican army won, the Spanish army won The Battle of Medina.

  • the Mexican people wanted a change in government. So on October 24, 1824, the assembly officially adopted the Federal Constitution of 1824. After that Mexico became a government in which people elect their leaders.
