- 1) In 1901, a terrorist group called the Black Hand was created. They wanted to unite Serbs in Bosnia to independent Serbia.They thought that the best way to do so would be to kill the heir to the Bosnian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This would end up happening in Sarajevo, the Bosnian capital.

- 2) Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, arrived at Sarajevo train station at 9:28 a.m.. The car drove slowly so everyone had the chance to see the royal couple.

- 3) Six Black Hand assassins were waiting for Franz Ferdinand at Cumurja bridge. They threw a bomb at the car but it missed and it hit civilians instead. Franz Ferdinand managed to get away and the black hand scattered all over the city to escape the police.
- 4) Franz Ferdinand wanted to visit the injured. At 11:00, the car made a wrong turn and it had to stop to reverse. They were in front of a place called Schiller's cafe.
- 5) By coincidence, a 19 year old member of the black hand called Gavrilo Princip was there and he shot Franz Ferdinand in the throat and Sophie in the stomach. The archduke's death sparked thebeginningof World War 1 (WW1).
- 6) Gavrilo was apparently sick with tuberculosis and lived for another 4 years, which was just enough to witness the consequences to his actions.
