  • Hi! My name is Amira and I am 14 years old. I live with my mom and dad in Israel. My mom works in the diamond industry, and my dad works in oil fields.Compared to most people in my country, I am a very fortunate girl. I live in a pretty spacious house, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • One day I was watching television with my dad. While we were sitting on the couch we saw an announcement: ¨Israel declaring war on Palestine over Gaza Strip¨. That’s where we live! I immediately prayed to Yahweh so everything would be okay.
  • I decided to call Aisha immediately. “Hello?”“Aisha! I can’t believe the news! What are we going to do?” “I honestly don’t know. My parents are pressuring me to stop my education so I don’t get yelled at by the Israeli soldiers” “But you do know that it’s for our own protection right?”“No Amira. It’s for YOUR protection. They want nothing to do with us Muslims. I think we should take a break”“A break? Why?”“Because my parents think it's for the best, our beliefs are completely different, and i’m not comfortable with it.”
  • The next day, I met up with my friend Aisha in home room at our middle school, Ohel Shlomo. “Did you see the news last night?” I asked. “Yes! I saw all about it. I’m not too worried about it though. I know everything will be okay.” Aisha reassured me. “I sure hope so” I replied.
  • After school, I decided to talk to Mom about my concerns. “Mom what is gonna happen? Could we lose our house?” “Unfortunately, yes Amira, that is possible. But don’t worry, nothing major has happened yet, so take it day by day” She replied.
  • The next morning, school was cancelled due to the troops being sent over to fight. Because we live so close to the conflict, we were advised to stay home. We were also told that Israeli soldiers would question people coming over from the Palestinian side, even if it was just for school. I instantly thought about Aisha. “What’s going to happen to her education?” I thought.
