Texte du Storyboard

  • A mother is concern about her son.
  • Honey, I'm worried about our son, Malachi.
  • What happened?
  • The mother believes her son's life has been impacted by COVID 19.
  • Ever since the COVID 19 pandemic, I've noticed he has been different.
  • He is a 16 year old boy , it's normal for him to be "different". It's apart of his developemental process.
  • Before COVID 19, he used to be outgoing and sociable. Now he hardly interact with anyone. Our son has become antisocial !
  • The mother has mentioned Erikson's Theory.
  • I don't think the pandemic has anything to with his "strange" behaviour. He is at the stage where he prefers to be alone. It's nothing to worry about.
  • A woman approaches her husband to discuss something she believes is happening to their son.
  • The mother has also mentioned Piaget's Theory.
  • Okay, honey. I understand, we can talk to him about it. There's no need to get upset.
  • The woman expresses her corncerns to her husband about her son's behaviour since the pandemic. Unfortunately, the husband does not share the same opinion and believes the son's behaviour is completely normal for an adolescent.
  • The mother mentioned Bronfenbrenner's Theory as well.
  • You're right, I'm sorry. I haven't been the best father since all the changes that happened at work. I will apologize to him and I promise to do better.
  • The woman has mentioned Erikson's identity vs role confusion stage because she states that before COVID 19 , her son was outgoing and very sociable. Unfortunately, due to the lack of face to face interaction, which is very important to develop one's social skills and identity, the son has become antisocial. The woman is very concern about the significant change in his behaviour but her husband tries to reassure her there's nothing wrong with their son.
  • Conclusion
  • That's good to hear, I will be "holding you to" your promise. I also have to do my part as Malachi's parent to ensure each developemental stage is develop successsfully.
  • All Malachi has done during COVID 19 is lay down whole day and isolate himself in his room. He's never done that before, I have every right to be worried. This can affect his cognitive devlopment.
  • Annoyed that her husband was not taking the situation seriously, the woman mentioned Paiget's theory to support her claims. She states that all the son do is lay down whole day and isolate himself in his room. She believes that self isolation is harmful to his intellectual abilities as he's not interacting with anyone. The father noticed the mother is beoming angry so he tries to calm her down.
  • Despite the father's attempt to control the situation, the mother has now become even more angrier and claims the father is also responsible for the son's behaviour due to "taking out" his anger on their son when he's stressed out from work, The situation mentioned is the third level of Bronfenbrenner's theory which is the exosystem. The father has realised his mistakes and apologized and promised to do better going forward.
  • Also, COVID 19 has affect your behaviour as well because you have never used take out your anger on Malachi. Now, when you have an issue at work, you come home stressed and "lash out" at him. This also affects his development and plays a major role in his behaviour right now.
  • The woman has accepted the husband's apology and admitted that she also plays a major role in their son's development. Malachi's parents both vowed to help him obtain each developmental stage successfuly. The father also suggested a solution for the problem.
  • I agree. The best solution is communciation with each other so we should all sit down and have a honest conversation.
