In this story, you will learn about the seven Catholic Social Teaching principles and how they can be applied to everyday life. We will also cover the corporal works of mercy and how they can aid those suffering from the injustices depicted in the story. Catholic social teaching is a set of rules that helps people create a society that is full of justice and where everyone can thrive. If we as a society could apply these rules then no one would be hurting or suffering and everybody could live happily and freely instead of living just to survive. The following themes (CST) that we are going to be covering and depicting in this story include the life and dignity of the human person, the call to family, community, and participation, rights and responsibilities, option for the poor and vulnerable, the dignity of work and the rights of workers, solidarity, and care for God's creation. These are the foundational principles and values that can lead to a just society if everyone works together to fulfill these values. The following Corporal works of Mercy (CWM) can be applied to aid the injustices in the world by providing support for the immediate physical needs of people. The Corporal Works of Mercy are: To feed the hungry. To give water to the thirsty. To clothe the naked. To shelter the homeless. To visit the sick. To visit the imprisoned, and To bury the dead. Through the application of these principles we can help to aid those that are physically suffering.

Even though the man's son is suffering and the doctors have already told him that there is no cure for the son's disease. The man decides not to euthanize his son as he knows that he will pass when God intends for him to pass because that goes with the teachings of the church. Although this is just one of the ways that the Life and dignity of the Human person can be applied to a real-life scenario it shows that we should protect life no matter what even if the person is suffering. The CWM that goes with this would be to visit the sick, and eventually bury the dead as the man's son is dying and the man came to visit his son in the hospital.
