- The Delian League was created to defend Greece in case the Persians came back. All city states that joined the league had to supply equal amounts of money, ships and soldiers to the league.
- 2nd Peloponnesian War
- think again
- The Peloponnesian League was created to to counter act the Delian League when some city states including Sparta thought that Athens was becoming greedy and selfish so they formed the Peloponnesian League.
- The first Peloponnesian War happened when the tensions between the Peloponnesian League and the Delian League were so high that the two sides went to war. The Delians led by Athens wanted to fight mainly sea battles while the Peloponnesians led by Sparta wanted to fight on land. Most of the Delian League soldiers were at sea when the Peloponnesian League marched to the walls of Athens and laid siege to the city. While this was happening a plague hit Greece killing 33 percent of the population. The war ended after all of this the two leagues came to a truce.
- The 2nd Peloponnesian War began when Athens attempted to conquer the island of Sicily. They they thought it would give them the upper hand in the war. Once the Spartans got word they sent troops to flank the Athenian forces from behind and ended up wiping out 2/3 of the Athenian navy and a large amount of their army. After this the Athenians had their backs against the wall and they would go on to lose the war and that was the end of Athenian empire.
