- the strange woman named Madeline is buried alive, because of her catalepsy the narrator discovers that she is Usher's twin and why she was there
- in the middle of the night some strange and noisy sounds began to appear, Usher alarmed by them runs to the window and saw that a storm is approaching
- The narrator flees the house in terror only to see it swallowed up by the earth in the rain the mansion has not been seen since.
