  • Metabolism MuseumChicago, IL
  • Welcome!
  • What are those cars?
  • This room shows where the cellular respiration and photosynthesis processes occur in the plant cell.
  • Some rooms and exhibits don't require as much energy as others, so we remove the electrons through oxidation, and some need extra, so we add it through a process called reduction.
  • Our museum runs on some manually powered energy, hence the cars. These cars transport energy to all parts of the museum.
  • Those cars transport energy in our museum just as it does in cells.
  • Next, we will go to the Museum Kitchen to eat and learn more about the Krebs Cycle!
  • This room is also another way the museum produces energy. Inside each of those large barrels is glucose. The glucose is broken down by enzymes, which is eventually converted into energy.
  • So many different foods!
  • All of these foods represent a stage of the Krebs Cycle. To begin, everyone gets a starter dish that represents the preparatory phase of the cycle.
  • FUN!
  • This train represents the electron transport train, which will transport us from the electron carriers exhibit to a membrane exhibit that will eventually make ATP.
  • And this is the garden, where we produce energy through the source of light.
  • Like a light reaction?
  • This garden also represents the Calvin Cycle! The plants in this garden convert carbon dioxide into sugars, which are needed for them to grow.
  • Whoa! That's cool!
  • Here you will find where you will choose steps of the electron transport system, to try to pair it to either cellular respiration or photosynthesis. This game is like Pac-Man, you will collect steps instead of dots!
  • And our second to last stop, is the museum arcade!
  • And to end off, are interactive displays where you all can track the movement of molecules throughout the metabolic processes and how they are connected.
