Episode 12 of Odysseus (Part I)

Told by: KaLisa Lynch

Odysseus and his crew manage to successfully pass the dulcet, yet lethal singing of the Sirens.

As Odysseus and his crew approach the narrow straight, they can't help but hear the bone-quaking roar of Charybdis. This cause the crew members to tremble in fear.

Seeing the obvious fear in his shipmates, Odysseus attempts to bolster their spirits by reminding them of the challenging battles they have already faced.

Quote from: Pg. 1073-1074

Odysseus continues to lead his men into the narrow straight, knowing that unescapable death awaits most of his men.

Quote from: Pg. 1074

As Odysseus and the crew move through the narrow straight, they encounter Charybdis and witness her in all of her terrifying yet enthralling glory.

While the crew is distracted by Charybdis, Scylla appears and snatches 6 men from the boat. All of them are led to a cruel and painful demise.

Having no chance but to move forward, Odysseus leads the remainder of his crew towards Thrinakia, deeply saddened by the recent loss of his six men.

Quote from: Pg. 1074

"Friends, have we never been in danger before?...Now I say by hook or crook this peril too shall be what we remember."

But as I sent them on towards Scylla, I told them nothing, as they could do nothing.

"Deathly pity ran through me at that sight-far the worse I ever suffered. We rowed on. The Rocks were noe behind".
