- Rainsford is on a yacht heading to the Amazon to go hunting. Whitney and Rainsford talk about "ship-trap" island while passing by it. Rainsford lost his balance and fell into the water and was left to swim to the island.
- Climax
- Rainsford meets with General Zaroff, one of the people living on the island, and Zaroff invites Rainsford for dinner and they talk about hunting. Zaroff confessed to Rainsford that it is too easy for him to hunt animals, so he created the most dangerous game.
- Falling Action
- Zaroff asks Rainsford if he wants to hunt in the most dangerous game. Rainsford refuses and Zaroff chooses him to be hunted and sends him off into the forest with a knife, clothes, and food.
- Resolution
- Rainsford is fighting Zaroff, Ivan, and their dogs on an edge of a cliff. Rainsford kills Ivan and one of the dogs while fighting. He then escapes form Zaroff by jumping off the cliff into the water below.
- Rainsford swims to Zaroff's house after jumping off if the cliff. He hides in Zaroff's bedroom, and Zaroff enters and is shocked that Rainsford had survuved.
- Rainsford and Zaroff fight to the death. Rainsford ends up killing Zaroff and feeds him to the dogs. The story ends with Rainsford sleeping very well in Zaroff's bed.
