  • Do you guys know how nickel is extracted from its ore ?
  • yes ! Lead ore is most commonly found as lead sulphide and galena
  • No!!
  • Yes you are right
  • Lead is extracted from its ore by reduction with carbon. Considerable effort has to be made to separate the lead ore from zinc ores.
  • lead has become one of most highly recycled materials in general use.
  • Yes, but surely there's more to it then that.
  • Lead and zinc ores often occur together and may also contain silver, copper and gold. The ore has first to be separated from clays and gangue after which the lead ore and the zinc ore are separated.
  • Then the lead ore is separated from the zinc ore. A chemical called a depressant is added which is soluble in water (for example, zinc sulfate) and the zinc ore sinks and the lead ore is skimmed off.
  • After mixing with limestone the filtered concentrated ore is roasted on a moving belt
  • The product contains about 99.5% lead, the remaining 0.5% being mostly antimony and silver with smaller amounts of other metals, including gold. Because it contains silver and gold at this stage, the lead is referred to as bullion lead. The bullion is heated to just above its melting point and all other things are skimmed off
  • nice! but with all that information what is aluminum really used for?
  • lead is used for radiation screening ,as lead compounds added to PVC as a stabiliser ,in roofing pipes and lining of vessels in chemical plants ,protection of underground or underwater power cables
