  • I apologize for being late; I was at the doctor's office for a blood test..
  • Oh! We were learning about Boyle's law, how perfect!
  • What does Boyle's law have to do with bloodshots?
  • According to Boyle's law, pressure and volume of gas have an inverse relationship, meaning that as pressure rises, volume decreases and vice versa.
  • When a syringe's plunger is drawn out, the volume inside the barrel expands, causing the pressure inside the barrel to decrease.
  • It makes sense,
  • Fluids (such as water) flow from a high pressure area to a low pressure area. This means that once the pressure inside a syringe is lower than the pressure outside the syringe, a fluid near the needle (e.g., water, medicine, etc.) will flow into the syringe.
  • Who discovered this law?
  • Robert Boyle, a famous English chemist, discovered in 1662 that if you pushed on a gas, its volume would decrease proportionately
  • So when you get a shot, pushing on the end of it injects the substance into your body.
  • Oh! It makes sense now.
