  • After 13 days, on March 6, 1836, we defeated the Texans at the Alamo. Now Texans must obey by our rules!
  • Remember the Alamo...
  • 4,000 troops strong while Texans were only 200.. They never stood a chance to gain independence.
  • March 11, 1836
  • Texan communities begun to hear about the news and were eager to leave their homes. They gathered their items and fled as fast as possible to avoid General Santa Anna and his army, who were full of injustices.
  • Oh noo! General Santa Anna will try to force us into his rulings. We must escape and leave all things behind immediately
  • Sam Houston decided upon retreat to the Colorado River and ordered all inhabitants to accompany him. His retreat marked the beginning of the Runaway Scrape at a larger scale.
  • I, Sam Houston will lead you Texans Eastward to escape the unfair policies. Rain or shine we will continue to move.
  • There was heavy rain, sickness and lack of resources on this trip which made it extremely difficult for Texans. Nonetheless, they continued through March up until April.
  • Day and night the Texas residents continued to flee on a mission for freedom.
  • Led by Sam Houston, Texans took this path in order to flee from Santa Anna and his army. They made the choice to leave everything behind in a quest form.
  • The Pathway of the Runaway Scrape
  • On April 21, 1836 Sam Houston had a surprise attack on the Mexican Army. Although the Mexican Army had more troops Texans were victorious. This ended the movement of the runaway scrape as well as the Texas Revolution as a whole. A short but powerful decisive battle! Texas was now finally independent from Mexico!
