  • This quote shows the reader how Macbeth is ambitious to have all the power but he is embarrassed by his own thoughts and ashamed of how far he would go for power. It foreshadows how Macbeth is willing to do whatever he needs to get what he wants.

  • "Seize upon Fife; give to th' edge o' [the] sword [h]is wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls"
  • Macbeth is feeling too guilty and bad about what he did to do anymore. His wife calls him a coward, but even that does not convince him, which is why it is a surprise later when he kills the guards. Macbeth is beginning to second guess his actions as the guilt begins to settle. tHis quote reinforces the power and ambition theme of the passage showing how macbeth is thinking twice about his actions and is scared of who hes become.

  • This shows how Macbeth is so paranoid about someone finding out what he did for power that his ambition was too big for him and he can't handle the pressure so hes sending "spy" to go keep an eye on everyone to make sure no one suspects him.

  • This quote shows the reader Macbeth has gone power crazy, hes so determined to be king hes willing to kill a whole castle of people including the kids to secure his role as king.
  • This quote explains to the reader that now that Lady Macbeth is gone, Macbeth realizes his life isn't worth anything to him anymore, Everything he did he did for her and now he has no reason to keep going.
