- After receiving the charter of trade from the queen of England, the East India Company came to India for trading and asked the ruler Jahangir for permission.
- Finally India! where we can trade and become rich!
- The sailor named Vasco da Gama reached India for trade in spices.
- Once they set up a factory at Surat , the other European traders got angry and jealous and fought wars, the British won all the wars. ( the French were their toughest enemies and fought three bitter wars called the Carnatic wars.)
- Vasco da Gama went to meet the ruler of Calicut ( king Zamorin.)
- Mr Zamorin ,I would like to buy your famous Malabar spices . Once I`ll sell them, Malabar spices will become world famous and I will give you lots of money
- Very well, permission granted.
- When the British started fortifying their factories, Siraj ud daulah the nawab of Bengal got angry and started a war with British called the battle of Plassey . Then Shuja ud Daluha , Mir Qassim and Emperor Sha Allam 2 joined hands and fought against British but were defeated. ( This battle was called battle of Buxar.)
- when Portugal became very rich. Soon the Dutch ( from holland), Danes ( from Denmark) and French ( from France) came to India for trade in spices.
- Can we trade with your spices, cotton and sugar and set up a warehouse ?
- Yes, you can trade with us and set up a factory at Surat.
- The French took over Pondicherry as their base. The Dutch took over Indonesia ( because the Dutch and British had a treaty and British took India)
- This is how the British established their rule over India and made us struggle for freedom.
