Texte du Storyboard

  • What types of food might you have eaten while traveling along the trail?
  • What would the conditions have been like on the trip?
  • What was the water route like? Land? Which sounds easier? Why?
  • Some foods may have been cornbread or meats that were hunted by some of the men in each tribe, such as turkey or deer.
  • Many of the natives suffered from exhaustion. What is exhaustion? Why can it be dangerous and even deadly?
  • Conditions were harsh on the trip, a lot of Native Americans either starved, died of illness, or could not survive due to the cold.
  • Explain what the trip was like for Samuel Cloud.
  • Some suffered from drought and disease. A lot suffered from hunger, illness, and cold temperatures. I think the water route may have been easier, as it did not require them to constantly be walking.
  • Closing Question...
  • How could have the Trail of Tears been avoided and what would YOU have done differently during that time period. If you were a politician or member of the local community to try and stop this act and ensure the safety of Native Americans during the height of Westward Expansion.
  • Exhaustion is when you feel fatigued, to the point where you may not even be able to move, it can be dangerous and even deadly because they have to be on the move at all times.
  • The trip for Samuel Cloud was full of fear and confusion. He was then later was full of anger directed at the white men who had put them through all this suffering.
  • The trail of tears could have been avoided by negotiating with the Native Americans on equal terms and without prejudice. I would have tried to buy the land from the Native Americans and enforced the fact that they were to be escorted safely.
