We have found two islands already and this one is called Haiti.
For his first voyage Columbus recruited 105 men and outfitted three caravels: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. The expedition started on August 3, 1492 to endure two months of hardship.
Finally, on October 12, after 2 months of enormous hardship, Rodrigo de Triana, cried out from the Pinta, that land lay ahead.
Columbus thought that he was close to Cathay or better known as China. Instead he found the island of Cuba and later another the Indians called Haiti.
Columbus explored Cuba and Haiti. He decides to claim both for the Spanish Monarchy and renamed the latter island Hispaniola.
Off Haiti's northwest coast, he lost the Santa Maria to a hurricane and was forced to leave behind forty of his men. With the remains of the ship he had a fort, La Navidad, built for them, while he returned to Spain with the others, to notify the monarchs of his exploits.
Back in Spain in March 1493, Columbus was given hero's welcome by the King And Queen, who were them in Barcelona.
