- On the seacoast of Illyria…
- I am indeed very sorry, Sebastian. By thy compass, it appears we now find ourselves in the land, Illyria.
- “For some hour before you took me from the breach of the sea was my sister drowned.” (2.1.22-23)

- “If you will not murder me for my love, let me be your servant.” (2.1.35-36)
- “I have many enemies in Orsino’s court, else would I very shortly see thee there.” (2.1.45-46)
- Nay, for you have recovered thee. “I am bound to the Count Orsino’s court. Farewell.” (2.1.42-43)

- On a street near Olivia’s house…
- “If it be worth stooping for, there it lies, in your eye.” (2.2.14-16)
- “She returns this ring to you, sir. You might have saved me my pains, to have taken it away yourself.” (2.2.5-7)
- “She took the ring of me. I’ll none of it.” (2.2.12)
- Sebastian, Viola’s twin brother, is revealed to be alive and is stranded on the seacoast of Illyria with Antonio, a sea captain who saved him. Sebastian mourns his sister, as he thinks her to be dead.

- Antonio offers his service to Sebastian but Sebastian is headed to DukeOrsino’s house and Antonio does not follow him as he is an enemy of the Duke.

- "O mistress mine, where are you roaming? O, stay and hear, your true-love's coming..." (2.3.40-41)
- "Excellent good, i' faith." (2.3.46)
- What is the matter with these foolish catches? Have you no respect at this time of night for my lady?
- On a street near Olivia’s house, Malvolio catches up to Cesario, expresses his troubles in getting the ring back to him and leaves the ring on the ground for Cesario to pick up.

- O, that Malvolio - incredibly arrogant! "I will drop in his way some obscure epistles of love... I can write very like my lady your niece." (2.3.155-56, 159-60)
- Sooth, that shall rattle him!
- “She took the ring of me. I’ll none of it.” (2.2.12)
- “She returns this ring to you, sir. You might have saved me my pains, to have taken it away yourself.” (2.2.5-7)
- Viola then begins a soliloquy, expressing that she didn’t give the ring to Olivia and comes to the realization that Olivia loves her.
- “Fortune forbid my outside have not charmed her.” (2.2.18)
- Although, Lady Olivia did act quite curious around me, before my departure.
- "HOW WILL THIS FADGE? My master loves her dearly; And I (poor monster) fond as much on him; And she (mistaken) seems to dote on me." (2.2.33-35)
- But I am no knave, sooth, am a woman, merely in a disguise.
- Back in Olivia’s house, Sir Toby and Sir Andrew joke around and get ready to have some drinks and eat. Then the Clown enters and he sings for them before they sing a “catch” together. Maria enters, followed by Malvolio who scolds them for their loud and foolish singing at night.

- If Malvolio hears you three..
- In a room in Olivia's house...
- Due to his annoying, arrogant behaviour, Maria, Sir Toby and Sir Andrew scheme a trick on Malvolio to write love letters in Lady Olivia’s handwriting to him, making him believe she loves him.
- "Excellent. I smell a device." (2.3.162)
