Texte du Storyboard

  • "The dog frothed at the mouth, lying at the door, sniffing, its eyesturned to fire. It ran wildly in circles, biting at its tail, spun in afrenzy, and died. It lay in the parlor for an hour." In this scene, the dog is tremulous because it suffered probable traumatic events such as the explosion and starvation.
  • At ten o’clock the house began to die. The wind blew. A falling tree bough crashed through the kitchen window. Cleaning solvent, bottled, shattered over the stove. The room was ablaze in an instant! The house lights flashed, and water pumps shot water from the ceilings. Personification: This scene shows the house being portrayed as a human rather than an emotionless machine. When the fire started to grow the house tried to put it out repeatedly, and this shows its human traits. The scene also shows that technology can be destroyed just as humans can.
  • Fire! Fire! Fire!
  • "While scurrying water rats squeaked from the walls, pistoled theirwater, and ran for more. And the wall sprays let down showers ofmechanical rain." "Heat snapped mirrors like the first brittle winter is." Simile: The snapping of the first brittle winter ice is comparable to the heat shattering and snapping the mirrors. The house's vain attempts to escape were overcome by the fire, which eventually devoured it. Voices, unaware, proclaiming the time, opening the door, until the very last second.
