  • Every June starting in 1825 there was a Rendezvous. This was started by General William Ashley's men from the Rocky Mountain Fur Company, they would meet up at the original festival sight from 1825. At these festivals or rendezvouses the mountain men would sing, dance, shout, trade, run around, jump, race, target shooting, and a many number of other games. Finally, they would sell their furs for supplies or 2 dollars (45.00 dollars today) a piece, which would then go to market and be sold for 7.50 cents (165.00 dollars today).
  • Challenges of the Seasons
  • I am dehydrated and very hot from that running, and we needed that food the bear took.
  • After Rendezvouses, the mountain men would be split into brigades of 40 to 60 who would all be going to a general area. After arriving, they would be split into groups of two to three at a camp site. This is the time they would be most vulnerable to Native American attacks. However, this is also the time they would catch the animals. While trapping beaver pelts were the most important. This is because they could be used to make expensive men's hats, which were in fashion from 1820-1830. Even though they were most important, they would still take anything they could get.
  • All Mountain Men needed supplies and clothes to do their jobs. Some of these items are a saddle, Beaver traps and bait, musket and ammo, a knife, extra socks, a flannel, blanket, bridle, fire implements, breeches, hat, tobacco, and any extra light clothing options. These make up the equipment necessary for Mountain Men to survive in the wilderness.
  • Mountain Men always had high ups and downs, from dangers of animals in the spring and fall to the danger of the winter or the summer heat. However, the season of spring is most profitable because of the animals leaving hibernation. While winter puts animals in hibernation and the makes the Mountain Men camps out and try to survive the lack of food, and freezing cold. In the summer they face dehydration, lack of food and burning heat. All of this also comes with the constant threat of having Native Americans posibly in the area.
  • I am exhausted, but did we at least get the beaver skins from our successful spring season?
