- This story starts off at the indoor of a house that is filled with technology within the house and mouse that are artificially intelligent. "In the living room the voice-clock sang, Tick-Tock, seven o' clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o' clock! as if it were afraid that nobody would."
- The Climax/Personification
- Things start to intensify as us readers notice that all of a sudden the family's pet appeared at the front door of the house and eventually got inside, but as it went indoors, the dog started to have odd and strange movement and out of the blue had died. The metaphor in this part of the story is when the incinerator was compared to evil Baal, who is an idol worshipped by certain ancient people, sitting in a dark corner. " There, down tubes which fed into the cellar, it was dropped into the sighting vent of an incinerator which sat like evil Baal in a dark corner."
- Falling Action/Tone
- The house was fulfilled with just peace and silence until a complication had came upon the house when all of a sudden tree had crashed right into the kitchen table and had set the house into straight chaos. " At ten o' clock the house began to die. The wind blew. A falling tree bough crashed through the kitchen window. Cleaning solvent, bottled, shattered over the stove. The room was ablaze in an instant!"
- Resolution/Theme
- " Today is August 5, 2026, today is August 5, 2026, today is..."
- As chaos had started, from there it just kept getting worse and worse as now not only was the kitchen set on fire, so was the rest of the house, little by little. In this scene there can also be representation of personification as the house is described as if it were a human being. "The house shuddered, oak bone on bone, its bared skeleton cringing from the heat, its wire, its nerves revealed as if a surgeon had torn the skin off to let the red veins and capillaries quiver in the scalded air."
- As the whole house now has been put on fire and is now falling apart, the kitchen appliances reflected upon the craziness as they for one, the stove starts acting all crazy making breakfast without any command to do so. In this following scene I noted that the tone tends to be very outspoken which sets the mood to be very crazy and chaotic. "In the kitchen, an instant before the rain of fire and timber, the stove could be seen making breakfasts at a psychopathic rate, ten dozen eggs, six loaves of toast, twenty dozen bacon strips, which, eaten by fire, started the stove working again, hysterically hissing!"
- Once all the commotion had come to an end, it seemed that only one wall was mysteriously still standing and for the clock, the fire didn't seem to have an effect on it as the next day came upon the house, it clearly seemed to stay on schedule. " Dawn showed faintly in the east. Among the ruins, one wall stood alone. Within the wall, a last voice said, over and over again and again, even as the sun rose to shine upon the heaped rubble and steam: "Today is August 5,2026, today is August 5,2026, today is..." This specific quote also relates to one of the main themes interpreted upon the story which is, As time moves ahead, Technology is already 10 steps ahead, as technology has become very incredibly advanced as well as powerful, than we could of ever imagined. This theme is definitely reflected in this scene.
