- As Rome got bigger, their culture became greatly influenced by the Etruscans and the Greeks. The Romans borrowed many ideas and skills from them too. Here they are being influenced by the Etruscans. This lady is showing this Roman man how to build something. They also showed the Romans how to build a cuniculus, an underground irrigation system.

- No one really knows who the first king of Rome was, but the first people to settle there were the Latins.
- Around 700 B.C.E., a Latin tribe built the village that eventually became Rome. They built their village on the Palatine, a hill in central Italy that overlooks the Tiber River. Eventually, the village of huts developed into a mighty city.
