- Good morning! My name is Ava, thanks for meeting with me today!
- She's only 17. I don't even know why I'm interviewing her.
- Ava explains her passion for books and skills to Claire. Ava didn't think she was doing that badly, but Claire's facial expression made her believe she needed to do better. Claire was not interested in what Ava had to say.
- I really enjoy all genres of books, so I could help customers find what they are looking for, and suggest ideas to them. I also have a great memory, so I can locate items in the store quickly.

- She's way too young to have a job . Working with customers? I don't think a 17 year old girl should be representing this store.
- I don't think Claire will hire me, she doesn't look impressed.
- Ava felt anxious, she wasn't sure she had done a great job convincing Claire she would be a good employee.

- Listen Ava, you're only 17, and I just think that's too young to have this kind of responsibility. You might be great for this position one day, but right now you are not an adult, you have no experience, and you need to be older to be taken seriously here.

- Ava was shocked, realizing Claire wasn't going to hire her because she is not an adult. Claire was happy she had gotten that over with, and excited to get back to her regular morning schedule, she thought it was hilarious that Ava thought she would be taken seriously.
- Claire, with all due respect, I don't think you should judge a person by their age before getting to know them.
- Ava, I'm going to give you a piece of information I hope you carry with you for the rest of your life. Do not stand up for yourself against someone older than you, they know better. Don't make a fool of yourself. Just accept it, and move on! Stop bothering them with your problems!

- Ava realizes that Claire isn't going to listen to what she says, so she takes a different approach. Claire is getting very agitated with Ava.
- Do you know what would be great? It would be great if adults could look at children and not say they aren't smart enough, they don't know enough, they're too young, they don't know what they're doing, or they aren't good enough. We have to deal with enough of that right now, without your help. So it would be great if one day you said hey, they are smart, they do have experience, they are good enough.
- You know what? Now you are starting to bother me! I don't know why you think you have an opinion about this, but you won't be hired by me!

- Ava thanked Claire for her time, and left with a feeling of determination. Ava knew that she would one day speak out aboutage discrimination.
