  • On August 8, 1789, noblemen gave speeches about liberty and equality. They joined members from the National Assembly & made the third estate equal to the 2nd and 1st estates. By the next day, the Old Regime had died.
  • After many advisers of King Louis XVI warned him that his family could be in danger, many supporters of the monarchy escaped the country. In June 21 1791, when the Royal Family attempted to escape France. they were stopped at the border and guarded back to Paris.
  • In September of 1791, the National Assembly came up with a New Constitution, which Louis approved. The Constitution took most of the King's power and created the Legislative Assembly, which had the power to create laws and accept or declare wars.
  • In 1795, the National Convention placed the power at the hands of the upper-middle class. This method of government was known as the Directory. Some of the people in charge were corrupt and made themselves rich. Anyways, France had found Napoleon Bonaparte, the perfect general to command the nation's armies.
