  • And just like that, they had done it! By working off of the ideas of those before them, Darwin and Wallace solved a huge piece of the puzzle that is human evolution. Their great efforts allowed them to be freed from the cave and they were able to step into the light of knowledge once and for all.
  • I don't understand what is so difficult. God made all of the creatures we see today. He made them and then placed them where they were needed. There is nothing more to it.
  • I have to agree with you, William. Nature is how we see God's design. Creatures do not change, they simply follow God's will.
  • BOTH of you are wrong. If that was true don't you think we'd be out of this stupid cave already? I knew you were stupid Linnaeus but this is just ridiculous.
  • Well, personally I think that the earth changes through a series of catastrophic events which introduces the idea of extinction.
  • Shut up, Lamarck.
  • Creatures spontaneously generate, it has nothing to do with God. They are even capable of change if they move from their land of origin.
  • Literally no one asked you, Cuvier.
  • I think you're on the right track Buffon, but I have to add something. I believe species can change and evolve but not by simply leaving their land of origin.
  • I think all of you are on the right track but you're all just missing something. You're thinking too small. Steno and Lyell taught us about deep time right? Our earth is millions of years old, how is it possible no change has happened over that time?
  • Hey, you're Darwin aren't you? I'm Alfred Wallace and my research has brought me to a similar conclusion as yours. I believe that the organisms with advantageous traits are the ones strong enough to survive.
  • Personally, I believe it has something to do with competition for resources, as Thomas Malthus called it. Those who have the traits needed to survive in any given context are the ones who survive.
  • Furthermore, because those with advantageous traits survive and those without die off, it creates change in the creatures overall.
  • THAT'S PREPOSTEROUS!
  • They're right, of course. I shouldn't have said anything.
  • You think so? You know I have a name for my theory, I call it "natural selection". Essentially meaning that those with the most advantageous traits survive.
  • Don't listen to them! I really think you're onto something here.
  • Let's do it!
  • We have to present this to Plato, it's genius! I'll go with you and back you up. This HAS to be the answer we've been looking for.
