  • What's going on in school Clea? I've gotten a call from your teachers the third time this week. I'm afraid if this continues I will have to discontinue your chess practice.
  • No! Please mom chess is the only thing I feel I'm not stupid at. Everything that's happening in school is not connected to chess. I promise!
  • I agree, and I know you love chess. It's just that I think it's time to consider suggestions and give you a test for ADHD. I just want to know the reason behind this.
  • Fine. I'm only doing it for chess, and I know I don't have it.
  • The next day
  • Hi, I'm Dr.Gold. After hearing so much about you from your mom, I have a question for you. What do you feel towards ADHD, and what symptoms have you experienced in the past?
  • I honestly don't believe that I have it. I'm not hyperactive or anything, neither am I impulsive. Sometimes I do have trouble controlling my emotions, but that's it.
  • I want to add something. Clea also isn't doing so well in school lately. She's failing all her tests and that's why her nurse advised me to get her tested.
  • It's not that I don't try to understand or listen, It's just that I get distracted a lot by random thoughts or ideas
  • This may be concerning as it is a part of ADHD. Not all kids that do have ADHD are hyperactive or mentally weak. For Clea, it just might affect how well she processes information around her . I will probably receive all her reports tomorrow and that's when anything can be said.
  • The day of the report
  • I reviewed her results, and I must say I’m really impressed by your logical thinking Clea. Although it is confirmed you have ADHD, you still seem to be gifted with the talent of chess. People with this condition seem to be extremely talented in one specific course!
  • Oh, are there any medications or adjustments that Clea will need?
  • I believe that the most important thing would be to ask Clea about how she feels about taking medication. If she doesn't feel comfortable with this we can start it later on. I will also call her school to inform them about her new changes and modifications in class.
  • Ok Thank you doctor!
