KARNATAKA AND TAMIL NADU FOUGHT FOR THE WATER OF THE CAVERY RIVER WHICH CREATED A LOT OF TENSION
THIS FIGHT AROSE IN 1892 AND 1924 BETWEEN THEN BRITISH KINGDOM'S MYSORE AND MADRAS.
THE AGREEMENT IN 1924 WAS SUPPOSED TO BE VALID FOR 50 YEARS ONLY.AFTER YEARS AND THE INDEPENDENCE THE DISPUTE RESUMED
BECAUSE OF THE SEPARATION OF STATES BASED ON LANGUAGE KERELA AND PONDUCHERRY SOONN BECAME A PART TOO.SEVERAL CRISIS AND EVENTS OCCURED IN 1995, 2002, 2003, 2007 , 2012 AND 2016 .THE CASE WAS THEN IN THE HANDS OF THE SUPREME COURT.MANY AGREEMENTS, NEGOTIATIONS AND JUDGEMENT WERE TAKEN BUT NONE OF THEM WORKED
ONE SUCH VERDICT WAS IN 2007 WHERE THE CAVERY WATER WAS TO BE DIVIDED AS PER ALL THE STATES NEEDS.Tamil Nadugets 419 TMC ofCauverywater, Karnatakagets 270 TMC, Keralawill get 30 TMC andPuducherry7 TMC.
THE CASE REMAINED UNSOLVED FOR MANY YEARS UNTIL THE FINAL VERDICT WAS ANNOUNCED BY THE SUPREME COURT ON 16 FEBRUARY 2018.
Reduced 14.75 TMC water allocation to Tamil Nadu and now Karnataka to release only 177 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu for the next 15 years
