  • Selecting Physical Activities
  • To be health, you need to do 60 minutes of activity everyday. When finding an activity to do, keep these questions in mind.
  • Which components of physical fitness do you need/want to improve? What types of activities do you enjoy? What types of activities help you manage your stress? What sports skills do you have? Would you like to participate with others in these activities or on your own? Where are your chosen activities offered? Will you need special equipment or facilities to participate in your chosen activity?

  • Caloric Balance
  • Caloric balance is the comparison between how many calories you burn and how many calories you consume. Calories can be metabolized in two ways. Maintaining your heart beat, digesting your meal, producing new cells, and all other processes that keep your body alive and well are the initial ways your body consumes calories. The basal metabolic rate refers to the number of calories burned every day in order to keep your body alive. Physical activity is the second way for your body to burn calories.
  • If you want to maintain your current body weight, you must consume the same number of calories as you burn. You will gain weight if you consume more calories than you burn.
  • No single activity can meet all of your needs. Pick something that fits your needs.
  • If you experience any of the symptoms of these conditions, stop what you are doing immediately and seek medical attention. The weather has a large impact on your safety while doing an activity. Whether it’s hot or cold outside, it is important to wear clean, appropriate clothing for the weather that is also appropriate for the activity you will be participating in.
  • We consume calories throughout the day as a result of what we eat and drink. The process by which your body converts calories to energy is known as metabolism. The rate of metabolism varies from person to person and depending on the activity.
