  • In the end of 1945 Allied and Soviet troops march across Europe towards Berlin. Soviet troops reach Berlin when Hitler committed suicide inside his bunker. This leads to a new government taking over and surrendering to the combined forces.
  • The Soviets and Americans had a complicated relationship. They both fought agaisnt the Germans but never helped eachother in any way. Both side would send spie into the other hoping to get any secrets they could. Along with this American and Soviet relations were deteriating as the Soviets wanted to spread communism throught the world.
  • The Manhattan project was the U.S.A's project in developing the first nuclear bomb. The Manhattan project was worked on during the war. It was started in 1942 and ended in 1945. There were many different people working in the Manhattan project but some of which were the German scientist who fled the country during the war.
  • Hiroshima was the first target for the nuclear bomb. The bomb was drop on the 6th of August 1945. The U.S wanted to get a response from the Japanese for surrender but didn't receive anuthing. The bomb caused about 80,000 civilian casualties.
  • After the lack of respose from the Japanese, the U.S approved a second attack on the city of Nagasaki. The second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on the 9th of August 1945. This resulted in around 75,000 civilian and military casualties. The Japanese responded by declaring peace.
  • The war ended in September in 1945. The emporer of Japan declared "The war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan's advantage". Japan was allowed to keep the Emporer but would have an 8 year occupation. A photo of Mac Arthur next to Hirohito was put in the press to show that the emporer was not the divine powerful being as they had thought.
