Texte du Storyboard

  • You will receive no inheritance from our father!
  • Leave!
  • I'm leaving! If you don't want me I will flee to the land of Tob!
  • I will lead my people. If the Lord delivers for me, the first person upon entering my door will be sacrificed to you.
  •
  • Come and lead us in battle.
  •
  • You will then lead our people if you deliver us.
  • Victory!
  • Jephthah the Gileadite was the son of a prostitute and Gilead, who was married to another woman. With her, he birthed two more sons. These sons looked down on Jephthah because of his mother, and forced him from his homeland of Gilead and moved to Tob.
  • My daughter I have made a promise to God to sacrifice the one who walked through my door
  • Do with me as you must, but let me weep for 40 days for my virginity
  • Jephthah became a warrior and bandit. So, after his hometown was being taken over by the Ammonites, the elders of Gilead came to him, and asked if he would lead their people in battle. Jephthah was hesitant since they were the people who made him leave his homeland, but they promised if he delivered the people to victory, he would become their leader. Jephthah agreed, and promised God if he delivered their people a victory, he would sacrifice the first person who walked through his door in his home to God.
  • The Lord helped Jephthah defeat the Ammonites, and conquer back the land.
  • After the battle, Jephthah returned to his home in Mizpah. However, his only child and daughter came home dancing and singing at the Ammonites defeat, and walked through the door. Jephthah was sad because he remembered his promise to God. His daughter understood her father's promise and agreed for her father to do with her what he must. However, she also requested to mourn her virginity in the mountains for two months before she must die.
  • Then, Jephthah's daughter went with her friends to the mountains to mourn her virginity for two months. After her two months were up Jephthah completed his sacrifice to God through his daughter
  • So, it became a tradition for Israelite women to go to the mountains and weep for Jephthah's daughter for 4 days out of every year.
