both the french and the British fished off the east coast of Canada. when they were there, they got to know the mi'kmaq and began to do some trading with them.
Phase 1 (1500-1603)
Phase 2 (1603-1670)
I will give you this gun if you give me that pelt.
Deal
New France was established and the french traded with the first nations in the area around the great lakes and the st.Lawrence river.
Phase 3 (1670-1760)
Britain set up the Hudson's Bay company (HBC). Britain and France were both trading with the first nations people. now the two countries were competing in the fur trade. Britain had the area around Hudson Bay, and the France controlled the great lakes/St.lawrence region.
Thank you for trading with the newly established Hudson's bay company.
Phase4(1760-1821)
the northwest company took over the french fur trade. now two British companies were competing. they both moved west, trying to be the first ones to get to the new, unclaimed fur trading territory.
I'll go tell my men to prepare for a journey further west.
we need to move more west to get all of the resources there before the northwest company gets it.
the war between the two companies has gone too far. so we decided to merge both companies and the name will be the Hudson Bay Company.
in your face!
Britain got the HBC and the NWC to merge into one company called the Hudson's BayCompany, whichtraded all across Canada.
