  • I don't understand what these letters mean. I'm never going to be able to learn to read before the dog visits the classroom.
  • Encouraging Tracy to Use a Growth Mindset
  • You can't read with that type of mindset. Everyone learns at different rates and if you allow yourself to make mistakes and learn, then you'll grow. Just remember, you can't read "yet". I can help you go over your letters so you can feel comfortable with them.
  • I'm never going to be able to read like the other kids Mrs. Ellen.
  • Tracy Stuck in Her Fixed Mindset
  • You got this Tracy! Remember, you just haven't learned this yet. Take it slow and learn at your own pace.

  • Tracy Practicing a Growth Mindset
  • Mrs. Ellen encourages Tracy to not use a fixed mindset saying that she is "...never going to read like the other kids..." and focus on a growth mindset. This mindset would allow Tracy to know even though she isn't reading like everyone else yet, she will soon if she learns from her mistakes.
  • Tracy Accepting the Growth Mindset
  • Tracy is practicing her letters, still stuck in her fixed mindset. She is afraid that she won't be able to read before the dog visits her class. She won't be able to see the dog if she can't read before then. Luckily, her teacher Mrs. Ellen motivates Tracy that she just hasn't learned this yet.
  • Tracy is Rewarded
  • Tracy practices using a growth mindset and sees that she can learn better when she isn't fixed on how she is a little behind her classmates. She learns from her mistakes, reads at her own pace, and focuses that she hasn't mastered reading yet, but she will. This will help her grow in her abilities to read and learn with a growth mindset.
  • Mrs. Ellen was right! If I put my mind to it and know that I just haven't learn to read yet, then I can learn my letters much easier.
  • Instead of giving up and not learning to read Tracy took Mrs. Ellen's advice applied an "I can do it" attitude and a growth mindset when learning to read. She now is able to read before the dog visits her class.
  • Great job Tracy! I knew if you could do it if you switched to a growth mindset. You learned to read just in time to see the dog to visit our class.
  • You were right! I started thinking "I can do it" instead of "I can't do this". That helped me start learning letters at my own pace. Now I'm able to read!
  • Tracy gets to play with the dog along with her other classmates. She now uses a growth mindset when ever she needs to learn something new in the future.
  • I'm so glad I didn't give up and learned through using a growth mindset. I'm going to use that mindset from now on.
