- In ancient times, there was no country known as Greece. They had very poor land that was rocky. Less than 25% of the land was used to farm. They had no main river so the Greeks turned to the Mediterranean Sea.
- Who influenced the Ancient Greeks?
- Modern Greece occupies a large peninsula that juts into the Mediterranean Sea. About 2000 BCE, people who spoke Greek entered the land from the north. Greek cities were isolated, so people fought a lot.
- Who were the Minoans and the Mycenaean's?
- The civilization of ancient Greece flowered more than 2500 years ago but the ideas of the ancient Greeks continued to influence the way we live today.

- The Ancient Greeks were influenced by an early civilization known as the Minoans. The Minoans developed on a Crete, which is an island south of mainland, Greece. The Minoans spread their culture around the Mediterranean region by sailing to other islands and the mainland.
- The Minoans had a complex culture. They had a writing system, running water, and trade routes around the Mediterranean. The Minoans were influenced by another early Greek civilization known as the Mycenaean's. They were considered Greeks and were governed by a king. They made bronze weapons, traded goods with other lands, and sometimes raided other people.
- The Trojan war is about the Greeks and a war against a city-state known as Troy. The Greek Kings wife, Helen, took off with the Prince of Troy, Paris. The Greeks built a wooden horse but the Trojans didn't know that the Greek military leader and some of his soldiers were waiting in a secret compartment in the horse, waiting to attack.
