  • Charles I was unpopular
  • I don't even know why I am serving this man. He's greedy, selfish,boring, and looks funny.
  • SHHH!! Chief, you might want to keep it down..anyone from the palace will be able to hear you!!

  • The war was between the king and Parliament to determine what role each would play in governing England
  • Glorious Revolution
  • The king was eventually overthrown due to the parliament which had Oliver Cromwell who was a military genius. When Cromwell took over, there was a lot of control and discipline. Cromwell then purged parliament of any members who had not supported them. That remaining group, also known as the Rump Parliament, had Charles I executed.
  • English Bill of Rights
  • Although the Stuart monarchy was restored by Charles II, it did not mean that the English revolution was undone. Parliament was still keeping much of the power was won and still had an important role in the government. Charles had voiced his ideas but was not on the same page with the English people.
  • A group of English nobles invited the Dutch leader, William of Orange, to invade England due to wanting change. The invitation seemed shocking to him and his wife Mary, who was the daughter of James II, to go up against her father for the throne. William finally decided to prepare to invade England in early 1688. James soon caught on to William's intention and sent out his own army. Seeing his soldiers leaving, James fled to London.
  • The English Bill of Rights helped create a system of government based on the rule of law and a free elected Parliament. This helped with limiting the power of the monarchs and forced them to make decisions that obey the laws of their state. This bill was a huge breakthrough in political ideas/laws. This law was a way to have/make monarchies more limited or constitutional
