When King Louis XVI marries Marie Antoinette, France is in alliance with Austria. The first estate is having an amazing time with all the money and speading it on lavish life style.

Economic Problems

France is debt and is sending money to support the American colonist. People in France are with little food and are living in poverty. This efects mainly the people in the third estate. They are the lower social class and are having trouble getting their basic needs because the first estate is raising the taxes. The people are breaking into small business and stealing food because most of the people in France are dirt poor.

Enlightenment
WE represent more than 95% of the French population, but we have no rights!!
The three main social classes were the nobility, clergy and the common people that were also called the Third Estates. Voltaire and Rousseau were part of the third estate that began the Enlightenment period. They began to challenge the king and rebel against the government. The National Assembly was created.

Tennis Court Oaths
We are the third estates, we are tired! We will challenge the king!
On June 20, 1789, in Royal Tennis Court in Versailles, France , the people of the third estates that were part of the National Assembly took an oath to never stop until a constitution that protected the rights of all citizens.

King Flees Paris
We can't escape!!
The revolution was getting more intense, more and more people started to rebel against the Monarchy. King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette try to escape Paris but the were not successful. On January 21, 1793 the king was executed by guillotine.

End of Revolution
Monarch has no power!! It is gone
Towards the end of the revolution there was a new form of government,the Directory. This was more moderate and less radical an intense. The revolution put a stop to the monarchy and created a fair system for all people. After the revolution Napoleon took power of France.
