  • In his story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that individualism is important. Holding people back from their true capabilities in an effort to make people as equal as possible is only damaging to society. True equality is not something that should be wanted. Sure, equal rights are important, but rights shouldn't be taken away to make them equal, they should be given. Give those who are lesser off a chance to be part of the society already built. Let people be unique and showcase their talent. Beauty should not be hidden to make others feel better about themselves. Beauty should be celebrated, and people should help others realize that everyone is beautiful. People who are smart should not be held back, people who are strong should not be restrained. Equality is a broken concept, because no one can be the same as another person. Everyone is unique, and society needs to realize that.
