  • Dengue virus
  • Dengue Fever is found in many tropical places around the world. The Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and islands all have outbreaks of Dengue Fever.
  • NK Cells
  • NK Cells
  • Dengue Fever is a virus that is transmitted through diseased mosquitos. There are 4 strains of Dengue virus - meaning someone can contract Dengue Fever up to 4 times in their lifetime.
  • To contract Dengue Fever, you must be bitten by an infected mosquito. The mosquito is usually the Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquitos, the same mosquitos that transmit the zika and chikungunya viruses
  • To enter the body the Dengue Virus must pass through the skin, sweat, and hair. These physical barriers try to prevent entry and the spread of the virus.
  • Police Station
  • The virus acts like a robber - breaking into the building to steal money and cause harm, just like how a virus breaks into cells to use resources and kill the host.
  • Wanted:
  • Micro and macrophages act as police officers, by targeting the robber and preventing him from stealing the money by arresting him. This is similar how micro and macrophages target pathogens and remove them.
  • Natural Killer Cells recognize abnormal cells (whether that's cancer, bacteria, or viruses) and destroy them. This acts as a police officer monitoring the bank for any more suspicious activity.
  • Inflammation and increased body temperature is a response to the invading pathogen to prevent the spread of the pathogen and to kick start healing. This would be like adding security camera's to the bank.
  • The cell-mediated defense is the processes in which macrophages target the pathogen and activate T-Cells to encase and destroy the pathogen. This is like if someone reported a robbery and the police arrests the robber.
  • The anti-body mediated defense is the process in which B-Cells identify a pathogen and T-Cells activate the B-cells to divide and destroy the identified pathogens. This is like the police station getting a call about a robbery and sending officers to make arrests.
  • The secondary immune response is like a wanted poster, while officers are out arresting active criminals, there are criminals who are identified and need to be caught, just like how the body recognizes pathogens that need to be destroyed.
  • The lymphatic system is much like the police system. They both are there to prevent harm to people and to isolate and combat bad guys.
