- At the castle of Athens, Egeus rules that Hermia must obey her father and marry demetrius.
- Oh Hermia, teach me your ways. Demetrius loves you but hates me.

- Theseus, as duke of Athens, upholds the law.
- It's okay, you may fear no more. Tonight, Lysander and I plan to run away into the wood. so Demetrius won't ever see me again.

- Lysander and Hermia plan to runaway from Athens.
- I shall go tell Demetrius their plan so he will pursue her and thank me for my intelligence.
- Helena is jealous of Hermia's beauty and Demetrius' love towards Hermia.
- Hermia and Lysander tell Helena their plans.
