  • Hi, I'm your narrator. Indigenous treaties in Canada are constitutionally recognized agreements; made between the Crown Indigenous. Based on exchanges that Indigenous agreed to share with the Crown, which belongs to their land, in exchange for various payments and promises.
  • We see treaties as legal entities that allow us, the Crown, to purchase your land. We get you to surrender your rights, as long as we provide you with reserves and payments.
  • We see treaties as sacred binding that build relationships between two nations, agreeing to share the lands and resources of Canada.
  • I am King George III that, furthermore, introduced the principles for treaty making with Indigenous peoples in the Royal Proclamation of 1763.
  • The constitutional character between the Indigenous and the Crown was renewed in the Constitution Act, 1982. It recognizes 'existing Indigenous and treaty rights' relevant to the land and its people
  • "We are all treaty people". Most of us are descendants of those who signed the treaties in the 19th 20th centuries. Therefore, anyone who is a Canadian citizen is under obligation to upkeep the treaties and respect and acknowledge what it outlines based on that specific territory of the lands you are on.
  • I, the European settler, agree to sign this treaty using your traditional wampum belts, in return for participating in your fur trade.
  • I represent for the "Dish with One Spoon" treaty on the land of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations.
