  • After 1516 he participated in military expeditions for the Duke of Nájera. He was trained to be a knight to fight for his king, his country and glory. He loved to fight and grew an attraction and addiction to romance and women. This would help later on with his reflection and try to act on these mistakes.
  • The Battle of Pamplona was part of the war between France and the Hapsburgs from 1521 to 1526. The Navarrese captured Pamplona but the Spaniards put up a good fight. The base of Pamplona was taking heavy fire but Inigo convinced his fellow soldiers to fight for glory and their country even if it killed them. During the fierce battle, a cannonball struck the castle and took Inigo and his legs with it. The explosion had shattered his legs and the Spaniards yielded. The enemies were so impressed by Inigo's courage they took him back to Loyola Castle for his convalescence. This time in his convalescence made him reflect on life choices and more consider serving the Lord.
  • The first Jesuits–Ignatius and six of his students–took vows of poverty and chastity and made plans to work for the conversion of Muslims. They went to Rome instead to meet with the pope and request permission to form a new religious order. In September 1540, Pope Paul III approved Ignatius’ outline of the Society of Jesus, and the Jesuit order was born. This has still today affected the fight for God in everyone's life and has improved the access to education not just about religion but many more aspects of our daily lives. From a spoiled rich courtier to a hero for the Jesuits, for God and for the whole world. One person can make a difference.
