  • Helen came down with this fever, and what was called acute congestion of the stomach and brain. This fever caused Helen to go blind and deaf.
  • Helen was now 7 years old and Helen's mother Kate Keller had a teacher named Annie Sullivan, who helped Helen learn how to finger talk, write, and how to read in Braille.
  • Annie wrote in Helen's hand with her finger the word water and this is when Helen realized that everything had a name.
  • Annie is taking Helen to Washington D.C. because she thinks that Helen would be better off with her than her parents because her parents were not really doing anything with her.
  • Annie put Helen in a school for deaf and blind children. Helen made friends with her classmates, she played with them, and knitted with them.
