  • The Mughal emperor Jahangir permitted the British East India Company to start a factory at Surat in 1613. In 1615, they were also given permission to trade and set up factories all across the Mughal empire.A number of trading posts were set up all over the coasts of India. The British set up communities in three major trading towns of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay.
  • Other Empires also permitted the company to open a factory in Madras. The British company started to block out all the other European trading companies from India.Soon, they also started taking control on cities by fighting wars.
  • The battles won by the East India Company include:

  • It was a rule made by the British East India Company that if a king dies without having an male heir, the kingdom could come under the Britishers control.
