  • Phanes, a Greek mercenary and former advisor to the Egyptian pharaoh Amasis II, played a crucial role in Cambyses' invasion. He defected to the Persians and provided them with valuable information about the Egyptian military and the Nile's annual flooding. His knowledge proved instrumental in planning the invasion.

  • The Persian forces used the help of desert Arab tribes, who served as guides and provided support during the campaign. Their knowledge of the desert terrain was essential for traversing the arid environment on the way to Egypt.
  • After conquering Pelusium, the Persian forces advanced to the capital city of Memphis. With the city's fall, Cambyses assumed control over Egypt, marking the end of the 26th Dynasty of Egypt.
