Texte du Storyboard

  • Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments...
  • Love is not lovewhich alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove.O no! it is an ever-fixed markthat looks on tempests and is never shaken. It is the star to every wandering bark,Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
  • An extended metaphor is present throughout this poem. The speaker draws various comparisons in the sonnet to create a more vivid and immersive image for the reader. Extended metaphors allow writers to draw larger comparisons between two things or ideas. In this case, we can find an example of an extended metaphor when the speaker says that love -- "is the star to every wandering bark, whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken". The speaker implies that love is similar to a star that helps guide a lost ship (wandering bark) at sea to its destination. By comparing these two things, that in literal terms have no relation to one another, the speaker is able help the reader understand the premise more clearly.
  • The turn, which is shown in line 9, shifts the speaker's approach to the poem ever so slightly. Prior to this section, the metaphor of love as a guiding star is the most dominate throughout the sonnet. However, once we get to the line -- "Love's not time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks within his bending sickle's compass come..." -- the image or metaphor of love as a guiding star is replaced with a personification of love as a more immortal entity that transcends death, loss, or sickness. Implementing the idea of love as an eternal, everlasting force. The turn in this sonnet allows the reader to see love in a less parochial way, and expounds upon the initial idea explored at the beginning of the poem.
  • Within his bending sickle's compass come; Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, but bears it out even to the edge of doom.
  • R.I.P
  • Forever in my heart.
  • If this be error and upon me prov'd, I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd.
