  • the winter was cold and any of the soldiers had limited materials, they usually made firecake made of flour and water. the winter was hard to get past

  • The soldiers quarters were made of logs from the nearby forest and they had 2 windows each.

  • the soldiers were faced with a problem when more than half of them were wiped out completely with diseases during the spring of 1778. during the time where people were sick, surgeons were introduced to Valley Forge
  • The soldiers faced yet another problem when they were scarce on supplies such as food. The soldiers were most likely malnourished and/or deprived of nutrients. The soldiers commonly ate fire cake, a combination of flour and water. Firecake does not have enough necessary nutrients to support a person's body, especially when they are soldiers preparing for war.
  • Baron Fredrick von Steuben was a former Prussian General who had been directed to Washington's troops by Benjamin Franklin. Von Steuben chose 100 men and he instructed them in drill, maneuver, and simplified manual of arms
