- It was the middle of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and a lavish feast was held at Camelot in celebration. King Arthur invited everyone from his court to join, but only the most noble and chivalrous knights were seated at the Round Table, a place of highest distinction at this grand celebration.
- Glisser: 2
- I shall not partake in any form of feasting until I have heard the most wondrous tale or until a bold challenger dares one of my most noble knights, weapon in hand, to face death first-hand; and if destined, he shall do so with dignity and bravery.
- *Grrrowl*
- Everyone was gathered and prepared for the feast that had more food and drinks than a person could imagine. The people would feast for a fortnight and day, which meant 15 days in total.
- Glisser: 3
- HUZZA!
- Noel!
- The knights continue the feast, but instead of eating, they drink and enjoy each other’s company as the celebration grows more and more worldly.
- Glisser: 4
- Whoa!
- gasps!
- All of a sudden, a strange man Rides in on a horse, disrupting their celebration. He was handsome and strong, but at the same time, you could tell he had just gotten back from battle because his stomach and waist were slender. This mysterious man was covered entirely in green. Even his skin, eyes, and horse were this color. He was seen to be wearing no armor, but he did carry a bough of holly and the most intimidating axe.
- Glisser: 5
- It is I, King Arthur, who is in charge of these knights. Come down from your horse and join us in our feast?
- The speechless knights stared in shock. After a long, awkward silence, King Arthur stood and addressed the mysterious Green Knight.
- Glisser: 6
- No, I will not join your feast. I have heard many tales of your noble knights. I come bearing holly to show I bring peace. I simply wish to propose a game to a knight brave enough to face me.
- I wish for a knight to strike me with my own axe. I will kneel on the ground, and allow him to deliver the first blow. But I will deal him the same blow a year and a day from now.
- *clip-clop*
- The Green Knight, knowing King Arthur is the leader, proposes his challenge to the king so that all of his knights may hear.
- Glisser: 7
- I thought these knights were the most chivalrous and brave of all, but they are not virtuous they are worldly.
- No man of sanity would accept your challenge. You and your words mean nothing to us. Hand over your axe! I shall take on your request.
- The court exchanges startled glances. King Arthur accepts the challenge because it is his duty to represent the courage of his knights.
- Glisser: 8
- I shall take your spot. My blood would mean nothing if it weren't related to yours. I am the weakest of the knights. The loss of my life would cause little grief.
- *GASP*
- Just as King Arthur is about to fulfill the Green Knight's request, Sir Gawain jumps out of his chair and pleads for the king to give him the axe.
- Glisser: 9
- WOAH!
- I'm not dead yet you fool!
- Sir Gawain, although unsure of himself, delivers his single blow. The Green Knights head falls to the floor! Everyone is shocked that such a scrawny knight succeded at such a brave and chivalrous act.
- Glisser: 10
- The Green Knight retrieves his head from the ground, grabs his axe, and leaves.
- Glisser: 0
- And who is the supposed leader of these noble knights? I shall make my pact with him alone.
- *snort*
- Gawain, I shall see you in a year and a day at the Green Chapel where it shall be my turn to exchange my blow! If you don’t come, you shall be considered cowardly forever.
- And what might this game be that you wish to play with one of the knights of my court?
- *splat*
