- Martin Luther King Jr was born into a middle class family in Atlanta Georgia. His parents were Michael King Sr and Alberta Williams King. He had an older sister Willie Christine and a younger brother Alfred Daniel Williams King. They grew up in a secure, loving family
- Martin Luther King Jr went to Booker T Washington High school where he skipped the ninth and eleventh grades. After high school, he enrolled in Morehouse College at age 15. His family was very religious but King questioned his faith in his early life. He took a bible class, however, in his junior year and renewed his faith
- In the year 1955 Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin were arrested for not giving up their seats on the bus to white men. This sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Later King was elected to lead this boycott. His first speech as the president declared, "We have no alternative but to protest. For many years we have shown amazing patience. We have sometimes given our white brothers the feeling that we liked the way were being treated. But we have come here tonight to be saved from that patience that makes us patient with anything less than freedom and justice."
