  • Hi, my name is Fannie Lou Hamer, I was born in October 6 1917,And i am one of the very few black female civil rights activists. Now my story begins in my hometown; Montgomery County Mississippi. That is where i married my husband Perry Hamer and had two beautiful children; Vergie and Dorothy. I had to drop out of school to work in the fields on January 1st 1923.
  • Now when i was just a teenage girl i could already see that i couldn't do the same things a white man could do, not even the same rights as a black man and it had always bugged me. We couldn't even vote for who the president of the united states of america would be even tho it all affected everyone. WOMEN HAD NOO RIGHTS!! And i wanted to do something about it to change it!! So i did; Let's go back to present day
  • In 1964 i ran for U.S. Senate but i was unsuccessful.i led a legal action against the government of sunflower country in 1970.Mississippi for continued illegal segregation.Then i ran for senate in mississippi state in 1971.
  • On janurary 1st 1962 i attended a rally organized by the SNCC and the SCLC In 1964 i helped organize Freedom Summer. It brought hundreds of college students; black and white to help with the african american voter registration in the segregated south. In 1964 my candidacy for the mississippi house of representatives was barred from the ballot
  • when i attempted to register to vote in 1962 Marlowe demanded that i get retracted my application or face eviction. Of course i refused and was immediately kicked off his land
  • On March 15 1977 i Sadly Passed away at only 60 year in the mount bayon community hospital,30 miles north of my home in ruleville from cancer#160;
