  • Roderick Usher is a childhood friend to the narrator and one day he wrote him a letter explaining his mental illness and how he wished for the narrator to visit and help him. He agrees and as soon as he comes face to face with the house, he gets sick to his stomach. The narrator is greeted by Roderick and notices he is in the same state as his house.
  • Climax
  • Usher then tells him that his sister, Madeline is dying. After she passes, Roderick advises the narrator and asks him if he can help entomb her and he agrees. They both put her in a vault but the narrator notices something odd, that Madeline had a smirk on her face with rosy cheeks.
  • Falling Action
  • After placing Madeline in the vault, the narrator starts to hear and see strange things. He sees a figure in the hallway that looked like it could be Madeline. Usher comes in the narrator's room one stormy night and to calm him down, the narrator reads him a story.
  • Resolution
  • While reading the story, they hear strange noises that sound as like the book is describing. Usher screams and confesses that he buried his sister alive and that he knew it. Madeline then appears out of nowhere, covered in blood.
  • Madeline jumps on Roderick which scares him to death. His sister died as well in that moment. The narrator runs out of the house in shock of what just happened.
  • The house soon collapses and is destroyed that it completely disappears into the fog and water. The narrator watches as this happens.
