- It was a regular Friday evening.

- I was ten
- My two younger sisters, Rosalyn and Vivienne were eight and six.

- My parents had been whispering in the kitchen all day
- We didn't think anything was up though.
- Glisser: 4
- We had no idea what was going on.
- Girls? Come into the kitchen for a sec, will you?

- There's something we have to tell you..
- What's going on?
- Glisser: 6
- We might have to leave China sooner than we where expecting.
- Glisser: 7
- I didn't want to leave! This was the house and neighbourhood I grew up in!
- When?! How long do we have?!
- Glisser: 8
- How would I say goodbye to my childhood home in three days?!
- About three days, I'm afraid.
- Three days?!
- WHAT?!
- Glisser: 9
- We didn't know where we were moving to next, but the Taiwanese government had offered to let us stay there for a few months.
- We left with a suitcase each. All our furniture would be shipped after we decided where we'd live next.
- Glisser: 10
- There were government cars parked outside our house as well as our taxi.
- Glisser: 11
- They followed us all the way to the airport.
- Glisser: 12
- Once we were on the plane and safely out of the country, my parents seemed a lot more relaxed.
- Obviously, I was sad to leave China behind, but I also was excited to see where we'd go next.
- And although I'll never forget the culture of China
- The culture of Taiwan and New York City will influence me just as much. So, by leaving China, I'd go down a new path, and take new opportunities that would never have been offered to me if we'd stayed.
